An unfortunate aviation incident occurred in the skies over La Jolla, California, last Wednesday. The small aircraft, operated by experienced pilot Michael Mehdi Salour, 74, from Carlsbad, failed to reach its destination and resulted in a fatal crash due to severe weather conditions and insufficient fuel according to Fox 5 San Diego.
Salour, who initially planned to move from the Bay Area to McClellan Carlsbad Airport, was forced to redirect his Cessna Centurion to Montgomery Field due to the weather. His diminishing fuel supply further complicated the situation as reported by the San Diego County Government.
Around 9:30 p.m. that evening, Salour contacted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) about his dwindling fuel situation. Despite efforts to tackle the issue, the plane eventually crashed on a hillside in La Jolla last Thursday, with Salour found unresponsive at the scene, says Fox 5 San Diego.
Authorities have ruled Salour's passing an accident. Multiple blunt-force injuries from the crash and adverse weather conditions.
