On November 14th, 2023, a drinking and driving incident culminated in the tragic death of two individuals in Dallas. 23-year-old Joel Rosales-Perez is suspected to of veered off the road while under the influence, as reported by Hoodline. FOX 4 News stated that Rosales-Perez confessed to the police about consumption of six beers and a shot of Don Julio prior to the accident.
The sad incident occurred in Far East Dallas near Military Parkway and North Jim Miller Road. Local resident, Linda Morris describes the scene as unprecedentedly harrowing. It served as a stark reminder of the treacherous consequences drunk driving can bring.
Rosales-Perez displayed embodiments of intoxication as arresting officers noticed his glassy eyes and detected hint of alcohol from his breath. After failing the sobriety test, Rosales-Perez was charged with intoxication manslaughter and was confined to the Dallas County Jail, with a bail set high at $200,000, as confirmed by FOX 4 News.
The casualties were identified as Lester Matute-Urquea, 21, and Jesus Garcia Perez, 36. Both victims were found outside their stationary Chevy Cruise on the roadside, when struck by Rosales-Perez's BMW. It remains unclear as to why the victims were outside their vehicle, with witnesses suggesting they were crouching near the car pre-crash.
As per theHoodline article, a detailed investigation by the Dallas Police Department is well underway, with case numbers 200964-2023 and 200965-2023 being associated with the incident.
