A Venezuelan national, previously convicted of murder and residing on Cape Cod, was arrested. The 38-year-old, Jordano Gotopo-Lopez, was captured by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers at a migrant housing facility on Joint Base Cape Cod, Bourne on October 27. He had been convicted in 2006, according to the Boston Herald report.
In July, Gotopo-Lopez had crossed the southern border and was reportedly residing in state-sponsored housing, prompting queries about the screening process and the public's right to be informed about any potential threats. Despite being issued a notice to report to the ICE offices within 60 days after entering the US, he didn't comply as reported by NBC Boston.
His prior conviction and Interpol "Red Notice" seemingly bypassed the notice of border officials when Gotopo-Lopez first entered the US. ERO Boston Field Office Director, Todd M. Lyons noted in a written statement that Massachusetts residents have a right to be informed about potential dangers posed by people living in state-provided housing. Gotopo-Lopez is now in ICE custody pending deportation to Venezuela.
