
Last night, a collision involving a station wagon and an electric bicycle resulted in severe injuries for a 57-year-old Watertown woman. The incident prompts reconsideration towards the implementation of improved safety measures for vulnerable road users, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
At the crash scene on Gerry's Landing Road, Cambridge Police Officers, Massachusetts State Troopers, and Cambridge Fire and EMS personnel swiftly responded.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the bicyclist was crossing the roadway within a marked crosswalk while the 2019 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack was in the left lane, leading to the collision. The driver, a 75-year-old Somerville man, was not injured, but the woman was thrown to quickly from her bicycle and transported to Beth Israel Hospital with grave injuries as reported by the State Police.
