Worcester psychiatrist Mohamad Och was sentenced by a federal court for wrongly prescribing controlled substances, specifically benzodiazepines and stimulants.
A press release from the Department of Justice confirmed last week that between August 2016 and February 2017, Och was involved in "issuing prescriptions for Adderall (a Schedule II amphetamine) and Xanax (a Schedule IV benzodiazepine) to undercover DEA agents". The trial confirmed that Dr. Och had neglected to perform appropriate evaluations or conversations regarding the hazards and potency of such drugs.
Reacting to the verdict, Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy stated, "This case underscores our office’s unwavering commitment to justice, patient safety, and the responsible management of healthcare resources" as per the Department of Justice, emphasizing their proactive stand against healthcare malpractices.
