The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has announced the safe recovery of 15-year-old Riley Kyle Bennett. The young teen had been reported missing earlier this week but has now been located, authorities said.
The details surrounding Bennett's disappearance were originally released in a press statement by the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station, which described him as a male Black, standing 6-foot-2, and weighing approximately 170 pounds. When last seen on December 26, Riley was wearing a black jacket with white fur lining, a white and black beanie, and blue jeans. The concern for his well-being was heightened by the fact that Riley has no history of running away, prompting an immediate and extensive search effort.
This positive outcome is the result of the combined efforts of the LASD Aero Bureau, deputy personnel, and the media and public, who aided in the search for Bennett. In a message published by the Sheriff's Information Bureau, authorities extended their gratitude to everyone who contributed to finding the teen. "Thank you to the public, the media, Aero Bureau, and deputy personnel for their tireless efforts in the search for Mr. Bennett," the statement read.
During the search for Riley, the Sheriff’s Department had urged anyone with information to come forward and assist, citing various ways for the public, to reach out anonymously if they chose to do so. The notice included a plea for assistance from Detective Castle or the Palmdale Station Watch Commander at 661-272-2400 as well as the "Crime Stoppers" hotline. The public was also encouraged to sign up for "Nixle" alerts for real-time updates from the LASD.
