
A 16-year-old male has been charged with vehicular hijacking and reckless conduct after an incident on Chicago's South Side, law enforcement officials said. The youth, whose name has not been released due to his age, is accused of carjacking a vehicle at gunpoint from a 78-year-old woman. He is facing one felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a weapon and one misdemeanor count of reckless conduct.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the teen was arrested at around 1:37 p.m. on December 27, just minutes after the alleged crime occurred in the 7600 block of S. Eggleston Ave. Officials stated that he was identified as the offender who forcibly took control of the victim's vehicle.
The juvenile detention hearing is set to take place at 1100 S. Hamilton on December 28, 2023, according to the authorities. The circumstances leading to the young man's apprehension have not been fully disclosed, with no additional information available.
