A South Florida community remains haunted, 16 years after the chilling unsolved murders of Nancy and Joey Bochicchio in the Town Center at Boca Raton mall parking lot. Despite the passage of time, authorities have not given up hope of finding the perpetrator. "It was incredibly sad," recalled Gerry Litrento, a longtime resident of the area, "It was shocking that it was happening here in Boca," he said in a statement obtained by WPTV.
On that tragic day, December 12, 2007, Nancy Bochicchio and her 7-year-old daughter, Joey, were found by security guards tied up and shot to death in their idling vehicle. A task force had been set up to investigate the case, pulling together resources from the Boca Raton police and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. A sketch of the suspected killer was released, a move that, to date, has yet to bring the case to a close. "We live a short distance from here, and it was very unsettling," Litrento added.
As per Local10, the video released by the Boca Raton Police Department in 2017 highlighted new photographs from the crime scene in an eight-minute feature, a desperate plea to the public for any information that could be critical in solving the case. The video also compared the murder to a similar incident that happened months prior, where the victim survived and provided a description of the assailant, leading to the development of the sketch.
Nancy's sister, JoAnn Bruno, has continually appealed to the public for help. "I just beg of you, please, if you know anything, come forward," she pleaded. "I hope every day he worries that the next day he's going to get caught," Bruno expressed in an interview with WPTV. In continued efforts to solve the heinous crime, Boca Raton Police Department remains optimistic. "As technology changes and evolves regarding DNA testing, this case is continuously being reevaluated. We remain optimistic that technological advances will lead our investigators to a breakthrough in the investigation," said a spokesperson from the department.
