A tragic incident in North Reading, Massachusetts, last week claimed the life of an 80-year-old woman after she was trapped under a Buick Regal in her own driveway. The emergency unfolded on the evening of Nov. 29 around 7:48 p.m., with authorities and first responders rushing to the scene near Fieldcrest Terrace, close to Hollywood Terrace, as reported by NBC Boston.
The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was extracted from beneath the vehicle by North Reading firefighters who utilized airbags to lift the car. Regrettably, she later died to her injuries at a local hospital. The preliminary probe by state police, as they continue to unravel the mystery behind the car's unforeseen roll, suggests no evidence of foul play, according to Boston.com.
As stated by the Middlesex District Attorney's office in a report by Boston 25 News, the incident did not involve another person since there was no one inside the Buick when it struck the woman. The North Reading police and DA Marian Ryan have emphasized the absence of criminal suspicion in this unfortunate episode.
The neighborhood remains in a state of shock and mourning after the loss of one of its longtime residents under such harrowing circumstances. Details on what may have led to the Buick's lethal movement are still awaited as state troopers assigned to the district attorney's office assist local law enforcement with the ongoing investigation.
