An Alameda County man has been slapped with attempted murder charges after allegedly plowing his car into a group of women in a violent family feud that shook the San Lorenzo neighborhood. The incident involved Leandro Angelo Torres, 31, who is now facing a dozen years behind bars if convicted on these serious counts.
According to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, the turmoil unfolded on November 25, after Torres was booted from the gathering and then stormed back, violently taking out his rage on his brother’s vehicle. In a turn of events that left the community reeling, Torres is accused of charging his vehicle at four women, trapping one horrifically between his car and another parked on the street, reported the District Attorney’s Office.
“Family violence in Alameda County is a real problem, especially during the holidays,” said District Attorney Pamela Price in a statement that cut to the heart of a broader societal ill. “This incident obviously traumatized the entire family and the neighborhood. Mr. Torres’ uncontrolled anger will have severe consequences for him, his family, and the victims of this unprovoked attack. This is an unfortunate incident for the whole community.”
The charges which include attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, outline a chilling narrative of domestic discord that, following a simple eviction from a family event, erupted into a potentially deadly encounter.
