An Arlington family's home became the scene of a fatal confrontation when a woman reportedly broke into their residence while they slept, leading to her death by gunfire. Arlington police stated that the family, which includes children, was asleep when the incident occurred, and no arrests or criminal charges have been made as the investigation continues, according to FOX 4 News.
Police say around 2 a.m. Thursday, a teenager heard a strange noise. That prompted his father to grab a gun and confront the intruder, identified as a woman, in their kitchen. The situation escalated after she became confrontational despite the father's attempts to get her to leave. The woman approached him and he fired his weapon. "She was repeating what he was saying, if that makes sense. So when he told her to leave, apparently she repeated that to him," Arlington PD Sgt. Courtney White said, per FOX 4 News.
The home located on the 1300 block of South Pecan Street, near downtown Arlington, was the site of a deadly shooting investigated heavily by local authorities where they found a woman with gunshot wounds. She died at the scene and had no identifying information on her. Family members indicated they didn't recognize her. Neighbors expressed shock over the incident, noting the area's usual sense of safety, heightened by the proximity to UT-Arlington, as reported by WFAA.
While no sign of forced entry was reported, the intruder broke every window of the home, complicating the scene and questions about the woman's motives remain as police work to determine them. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office is involved aiming to identify the woman while the family which had recently moved into the home deals with the aftermath, saying that they didn't want to comment on the shooting.
