An Atlanta father has been arrested and charged in a chilling tale of murder, abuse, and neglect that culminated in the death of a 4-year-old girl, police confirmed. According to a FOX 5 Atlanta report, Rodney McWeay was taken into custody yesterday after his daughter was found unresponsive earlier in the month.
Police allege that the suspect, McWeay, not only kidnapped but also held his children in conditions that can barely be described as livable. The case notably began to unfold on December 11, when officers responded to a distress call at a home on Renfrew Court SW. The victim, identified as Treasure McWeay, was later pronounced dead at the hospital due to severe undernourishment and dehydration. Using their authority to swiftly act, investigators charged McWeay with a string of grave offenses, including murder, cruelty to children in the first and second degree, kidnapping, and imprisonment.
In a separate but equally harrowing account provided by an AJC report, it was revealed that McWeay is accused of withholding food and water from his three children, leading to extreme malnutrition and severe dehydration. The living conditions were so dire that, during a search of McWeay's residence, authorities discovered only expired food and no clothing in the children's rooms. To add to this draconian setting, several cameras, including some aimed at the children's beds, were found throughout the property.
The investigation further unearthed that McWeay had no legal custody of his children and had been accused of kidnapping them back in July from their mother in Maryland. "On July 6, he is accused of kidnapping all three kids from a residence in Aberdeen, Maryland," the AJC article stated, citing official arrest warrants. Allegedly, the suspect prevented the kids' mother and even the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services from making any contact with the children.
