The holiday season is ushering in schedule changes for city services in Austin, with altered timings for trash pickup and closures across various departments. Christmas and New Year's Day falling on a Monday will shift trash, recycling, and composting pickups to the following day for the entirety of those weeks. Those seeking to verify their collection schedule can turn to the Austin Recycles app or the city's website, as reported by the City of Austin's official announcement

Residents needing to dispose of yard trimmings or large brush should note that the Austin Water’s Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant will take advantage of the holidays, closing its doors on both Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. The Recycle and Reuse Drop-off Center echoes this break, shuttering on these dates, but remains open by appointment during the remaining days of those weeks, according to AustinTexas.

Where health is the concern, Austin Public Health services will be observing a break for the festive period too. The Rutherford Lane Campus, Office of Vital Records, WIC and Shots for Tots clinics, and Neighbor Centers will not be operational on Dec. 25 and 26, as well as Jan. 1, as stated in the city's closure notice. Off-site COVID-19 testing can be found at a variety of non-profit and private locations throughout Austin, including urgent care centers and pharmacies, as per AustinTexas.

For immediate questions or concerns regarding city services, residents can still contact the city's 3-1-1 line or submit requests through the Austin 3-1-1 mobile app during the holiday closures.
