Austin residents can anticipate a mix of cloud cover and sunshine today with highs in the mid-60s following a chilly morning that started off in the 30s and 40s, according to the KVUE. The weather report also points out that the first cedar spike of the season could agitate allergy sufferers, as winds from a recent weak cold front have pushed pollen counts higher.
Tonight is expected to be mostly cloudy, with a low around 51 and some patchy fog or drizzle possible, while Wednesday will bring cloudier skies, a slight chance of showers and temperatures in the low 70s. Forecasters at the National Weather Service said Austin is set to experience increased cloudiness during the afternoon with the light winds shifting south-southeast, reaching speeds of 5 to 10 mph.
Rain chances will begin to escalate later in the week and persist through the holiday weekend, with the first round of more widespread showers expected Thursday night into Friday morning; however, neither severe weather nor storms are anticipated to accompany this upcoming rainfall, as per KVUE.
Another system could bring additional rain and potential storms on Sunday, which importantly is Christmas Eve, so travelers planning to be on the road that day should stay informed and prepare accordingly. Additionally, most of the rain should dissipate by Christmas Day, but a lingering 10% to 20% chance of showers can't be ruled out, with the upside being the possibility for Central Texas to accumulate at least an inch of rain throughout the week, according to the National Weather Service and they report a high near 69 degrees for Christmas Day in Austin.
