A two-alarm blaze tore through a residential building on Waverly Street, leaving nine Brockton locals without a place to call home, officials confirmed. The fire, which escalated quickly through the second floor, the third floor, and the rooftop, has left the building severely damaged.
Swift action by a barber and a police officer who were near the scene may have averted a worse disaster. The two rushed into the flaming structure and alerted the residents, ensuring a woman and her children were among those who escaped unharmed. Crews from Brockton Fire, in battling the blaze, witnessed one of their own injured and subsequently evacuated on a stretcher, as reported by WHDH News.
The origins of the fire are currently under the scrutiny of the fire marshal’s office, with no cause yet disclosed to the public. The investigation continues as officials comb through the charred remnants in search of answers.
In the meantime, the displaced residents have found temporary relief through the Red Cross, which is providing essential assistance during this period of loss and upheaval. According to a post on X by Cooper on 7 News, the fire marshal's office has taken over the investigation to discern the root of the conflagration.
