Last night, a routine patrol in Benicia became an arrest when police officers stumbled upon a stolen vehicle and its driver, who was already on their radar for a different warrant. According to the Benicia Police Department's Facebook page, the discovery was made around 8:45 p.m. Monday on Columbus Parkway. The vehicle had been reported stolen from another city earlier that day.
While the vehicle sat unassumed in a parking lot, the Benicia Police ran a check that flagged the car as stolen and alerted officers to the presence of Jonathan Matthew Brady, 35, who, according to the official crime graphics website, had an outstanding arrest warrant. They promptly arrested Brady, who also faced new charges, including vehicle theft and possession of controlled substances.
The Benicia PD's post detailed that the arrest was not only for the stolen vehicle possession but Brady also found himself in cuffs for possession of a controlled substance, further complicating his legal entanglements. Details on the arrest, such as Brady's occupation as a machinist and physical descriptors, reiterated the severity of the situation for a man who stands 6 feet tall, weighing in at 190 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes as per the crime graphics report.
Brady is now facing several charges, which include 10851(A) VC for taking a vehicle without the owner's consent. This is in addition to 11377(A) HS for possessing a controlled substance and 496D(A) PC for possessing a stolen vehicle, all of which could impose a substantial legal burden on the machinist. The case, referenced as #23-1963 by the Benicia police.
