Responders from the SRPD, the San Rafael Fire Department (SRFD), and paramedics pronounced the male bicyclist deceased at the scene. San Rafael, CA – On Saturday, 12/02/23, SRPD officers responded to Andersen Drive at the Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit (S.M.A.R.T.) railroad grade crossing for a vehicle versus bicyclist collision.… pic.twitter.com/9WkEcVqYNm
The preliminary findings suggest that the bicyclist was traveling north on Andersen Drive and, upon crossing the tracks, fell to the pavement and into the path of the oncoming truck. Alcohol and drugs were not believed to be a factor, but toxicology reports are pending to confirm this. The roadway and railroad services were reportedly shut down for seven hours to facilitate immediate investigative procedures.
While the SRPD leads the investigation, it is being assisted by the Marin County Coroner's Office and SMART officials. The meticulous investigation, considering statements and evidence from the scene, is expected to take several months. In a call for public assistance, anyone with information about the incident has been urged to contact San Rafael Police or submit tips through their website.
