Emergency responders rushed to a medical facility in Waltham, Mass., earlier this morning, where a fire broke out, prompting a large-scale evacuation of the complex. The blaze was reported at the Mass General Brigham Health Center, according to WHDH. The Waltham Police Department confirmed that 2nd Avenue and Bear Hill Road were shut down to traffic as firefighters and other emergency crews tackled the emergency.
Video footage captured by SKY7-HD, from a statement obtained by WHDH, showed patients and medical staff being evacuated from the building while firefighters entered and exited the facility and its parking garage. The nature of the fire, as well as details on any potential injuries, have not been disclosed.
The situation was further exacerbated by a third alarm in the parking garage of the same medical offices. Firefighters from Cambridge were seen assisting the Waltham Fire Department in battling the flames, as reported by Boston 25 News.
Traffic disruptions have spread beyond the immediate vicinity, with closures impacting routes to and from Rt 95 onto the area of Winter St in Waltham.
