Police have cuffed a man they say is responsible for a shooting in Dorchester earlier this week. Francisco Guerrero, a 20-year-old local, was nabbed by detectives from District B-3 (Mattapan) on Tuesday after an investigation tied him to the gunfire. According to a statement from the Boston Police Department, Guerrero faces a slew of charges including four counts of assault by means of a dangerous weapon to wit firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, ammunition, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
The original incident occurred at around 12:51 AM on December 18, when Boston cops dashed to 158 Spencer Street after a report of shots fired. Upon their arrival, they learned that after a verbal spat, a suspect squeezed off a round at a house. Luckily, no one was injured during the ordeal. The suspect, alleged to be Guerrero, took off in a vehicle shortly after letting loose the bullet.
Guerrero, who hails from Dorchester, is now set to face the music for his actions in the Dorchester District Court. The Boston Police Department's report provides no detail on any motive behind the altercation or the shooting.
A quiet night was shattered by the sound of gunfire, but fortunately, there were no injuries reported. This incident is yet another stark reminder of the threat that guns pose to community safety. Guerrero's arraignment is anticipated to shed more light on the circumstances that lead to the violent incident. Residents are hopeful that it will also bring closure to a community often left reeling from such events.
