A brazen porch pirate has been nabbed by Boston cops after a wild-foot chase in Brighton, authorities said. Jeremie Rowell, a 31-year-old Dedham man, was caught allegedly swiping packages the day before on Commonwealth Avenue.
Yesterday, patrol officers from District D-14 dashed to the scene near 1152 Commonwealth Avenue following a tip about a suspect trying to break into a building, according to the Boston Police Department's official release. Cops, armed with a description of the prowler, spotted Rowell leaving the area but he didn't go quietly; instead, he led officers on a lengthy chase before being cuffed, the department detailed.
The report further revealed that subsequent sleuthing linked Rowell to multiple thefts, accusing him of attempting to break and enter, receiving stolen property worth over $1,200, larceny from a building and trespassing. His string of alleged thefts came to an abrupt end as Brighton's finest slapped the cuffs on him.
Rowell's next stop is the Brighton District Court, where he'll answer the charges. This latest incident casts a spotlight on the ongoing issue of package thefts that spike during the holiday season, leaving residents on high alert and police urging vigilance. Meanwhile, police are pressing the public to report suspicious activity promptly, stressing that it’s a community's watchful eyes that often lead to the swift apprehension of these opportunistic thieves.
