Boston's Office of Workforce Development has just announced Tanisha DeLeon's new role as Deputy Director of Youth Options Unlimited (YOU) Boston, an initiative designed to aid at-risk and court-involved youth aged 14 to 24. These services aim to assist young individuals with their reintegration into the community after incarceration and support them through case management, educational assistance, job placement, and subsidized employment, serving upwards of 400 youth annually. DeLeon is set to manage and implement programs focused on providing Boston's youth with equal access to education and career opportunities.

Trinh Nguyen, the Chief of Worker Empowerment, expressed enthusiasm regarding DeLeon's ability to "strategize to better serve these young people." "We are delighted that Tanisha DeLeon has joined the Office of Workforce Development to lead YOU Boston," she told boston.gov. DeLeon's hiring is a move that aligns with Mayor Wu's commitment to providing meaningful employment and mentorship opportunities to the city's youth as they attempt to navigate the challenges of violence and trauma within their communities.

Senior Advisor for Community Safety, Isaac Yablo, spoke highly of DeLeon's past experience with closing opportunity gaps for vulnerable groups. "I’m so pleased that Tanisha will be joining the amazing team over at YOU Boston," Yablo remarked in a statement obtained by boston.gov. "Her experience closing opportunity gaps among vulnerable populations will be critical in this role. I look forward to working with her to provide life-changing opportunities to some of our most at-promise youth and young adults."

DeLeon, a Boston native with an educational background from Centre College and professional experience in social impact and strategic planning, has previously worked at Western Governors University and Gener8tor. At Gener8tor, she notably facilitated the growth of over 40 businesses by helping underserved business owners secure capital and set up operations. "I am thrilled about the opportunity to nurture space for youth to grow," DeLeon explained to boston.gov. She stands firm in the belief in granting multiple opportunities for youth to fully realize their potential.

YOU Boston is currently recruiting for its Youth Employment Program Winter 2024 cohort. The program places young people into paid positions across community-based organizations. Interested youths between the ages of 14-24 can apply, or be referred, to the program through different channels including an online form, email, or by calling a provided number. The application deadline is slated for December 20, 2023. More details about the program and application process can be found on Boston's government website.
