A 50-year-old Braintree man was apprehended for his alleged involvement in a daring heist at a high-end Valentino boutique on Boston's swanky Newbury Street. Identified as Wayne O'Keefe, the suspect was cornered by law enforcement following a citywide alert to spot a vehicle tied to the early December robbery, as reported by WHDH.
On December 11, two individuals were spotted by surveillance cameras inside the Valentino store, their arms laden with luxury handbags, subsequently making off with an estimated $30,000 worth. In a classic break-in scenario, the burglars reportedly launched their assault on urban opulence by lobbing a brick through the boutique's glass window, around the witching hour of 3:30 a.m. The Boston Police Department later relayed that officers stationed at District 4 spotted the vehicle on Friday afternoon and executed a traffic stop on Melnea Cass Boulevard, NBC Boston details.
O'Keefe, when found, was charged with a slew of automotive infractions, including operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, as well as the possession of two classes of illicit drugs. His legal entanglements were compounded when he found himself accosted with additional charges pertaining to the high-profile shoplift, WCVB reports.
The details surrounding the capture of O'Keefe reveal that not only was his vehicle under scrutiny due to its connection to the opulent heist but also for his flouting of vehicular regulations. According to the Boston Police Department, the incident remains under investigation, as the second suspect is still at large. Tips from the public are encouraged and can be submitted anonymously to support the ongoing inquiry into the brazen burglary. Anyone with poignant information about the case is being urged to come forward and contact detective units or utilize the CrimeStoppers Tip Line, according to NBC Boston.
O'Keefe's arraignment is set for Monday morning at the Boston Municipal Court.
