Broward County's movers and shakers on the Small Business Development Advisory Board (SBDAB) have just crowned new heads of the table. According to a news release by Broward County, former Vice-Chair Shaheewa Jarrett Gelin, Esq. has stepped up as Board Chair, while Richard S. Bonchick has been tapped as Vice-Chair.
After the recent shuffle in leadership, Jarrett Gelin is riding the wave of enthusiasm, stating, "Small businesses create the majority of the jobs and serve as the economic engine for our local economy, and it is a pleasure to serve and be an advocate for the small business owner," as reported by Broward County. Bonchick, of Alliance Financial Group located in Coral Springs exuded confidence, "I am very excited to be entrusted by my peers. It will be a great honor to help the backbone of Broward County's workforce - the small business owner. We are in an amazing place, at an amazing time."
As for the SBDAB itself, the group got off the ground back in 2001 with a mission to home in on issues specific to businesses in the county. The main agenda is to push forward economic development and stand behind Broward County's small businesses as they take on not just local, but potentially global markets.
The next rendezvous for the board will be on January 17, as posted by the Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development. This event is no secret – it's open to the public, inviting any and all who wish to listen in as decisions about the economic pulse of the county are made.
Recognition is also due to the outgoing chair Jean McIntyre, who handed over the reins after two years at the forefront. A shout out to her was spotted on Instagram, with hashtags nodding to Broward County's black business community and greater Pompano Beach area chambers, suggesting McIntyre left no stone unturned in her efforts to bolster small business growth. The community's eager eyes are now on Jarrett Gelin and Bonchick, to see how they will steer the ship into 2024.
