Chicago's night of terror ensued as an armed gang in a silver vehicle went on a city-wide crime spree, culminating in a violent shootout during a carjacking attempt in West Garfield Park. According to ABC7 Chicago, the incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. when a 65-year-old armed man and his 40-year-old female companion were accosted by four assailants. The confrontation escalated rapidly, with the man opening fire but failing to hit the suspects, who retaliated, striking the woman in the chest and grazing the man's calf.
The suspects then hastily retreated to their silver SUV and fled, leaving the victims wounded but in good condition as they were later transported to West Suburban Medical Center, as confirmed by Chicago Tribune. No arrests have been made in connection to the shootout or the series of armed robberies that shook residents across several neighborhoods.
Lines of investigations suggest that these crimes which also include three other armed robberies are linked by the silver vehicle used by the culprits, described at times as a sedan and other times as an SUV. The earlier robberies took place between 3:15 a.m. and 4:25 a.m., when individuals were accosted and robbed at gunpoint, suffering head injuries in Logan Square and near a drive-thru ATM on South Damen Avenue.
Chicago police are painstakingly piecing together the events of the night, urging the community to come forward with any information about the silver vehicle or the caught on a spree of violence.
