
Flames erupted inside a high-rise building in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood early Friday morning, forcing residents to quickly evacuate the premises. According to FOX 32 Chicago, the fire started around 8:00 a.m. on the sixth floor of the building at 1020 W. Foster Ave. At least six individuals were reported to be at windows, signaling for assistance to escape the burning structure.
The Chicago Fire Department acted swiftly to bring the situation under control, a 2-11 alarm having been called to address the blaze. Their efforts involved raising ladders to rapidly and to safely extract residents, which was confirmed by Chicago Tribune. Fire crews were on the fire floor to rescue those trapped.
Several people were successfully rescued by the fire department from the scene. "At least six people needed help exiting the building and were 'at windows looking to get out,'" according to CFD. The fire on the sixth floor was extinguished by 9:00 a.m., as noted by FOX 32 Chicago.
As of now, the cause of the fire remains under investigation, with authorities yet to deliver any definitive conclusions about the origin of the flames.
