
A 21-year-old man has been slammed with an attempted murder charge after a shooting in Chicago's South Side that left a 24-year-old male seriously wounded. The Chicago Police Department has identified Quijuan Waters, a resident of the 400 block of Brookside Dr. in Oswego, Illinois, as the alleged shooter in the violent episode that unfolded earlier this week. According to the police report, the incident occurred in the 5600 block of S. Michigan Ave, with Waters being nabbed a mere blocks away on S. Wabash Ave shortly after the attack.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, sustained serious injuries from the shooting which took place less than 15 minutes before the arrest on December 27, 2023. Waters is now facing a felony count of attempted first-degree murder, looking at a serious time behind bars if convicted. The Chicago Police Department, in a statement obtained by the Chicago Police Department's news affairs, detailed the swift apprehension of the suspect, who was placed into custody, without mentioning further details of the predicament or the condition of the victim.
Quijuan Waters is expected to face a judge today for a detention hearing at 2600 S. California. The court will decide whether Waters will be held pending trial or granted bail.
The department has not released any additional information about the shooting or about the alleged motive behind it.
