Two men from Chicago are accused of cold-blooded murder to climb the ranks within their street gang, based on a federal indictment. Diontae Harper, 24, and Amonti McClure, 21, both members of Faceworld, a gang operating with violence and narcotics trafficking on the city's South Side, allegedly executed the slaying to further their gang statuses, according to the indictment, which was detailed in a statement released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois.

The victim, Paul Harris, was gunned down while innocently sitting in his vehicle on May 13, 2020, in Chicago’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood. This indictment charges the duo with one count of murder in aid of racketeering, a crime that carries a mandatory life sentence and even the potential for the death penalty. Harper and McClure are currently being held in law enforcement custody, expected to soon directly face the heavy handed of justice.

Arraignment schedules have Harper set to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Heather K. McShain on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m., while McClure will stand before the same judge on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. Following their indictment, federal prosecutors intend to request that the pair be kept behind bars until their trial dates.

Acting United States Attorney Morris Pasqual, alongside Chicago FBI head Robert W. “Wes” Wheeler, Jr., and Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling, announced the charges, seeking to bring to bear the full weight of the law against these alleged gang operatives.
