Chicago's 2nd District is on high alert as the Chicago Police Department has reported a string of armed robberies targeting individuals attempting to purchase Xbox systems advertised for sale on social media. In a community alert posted on the Chicago Police Department's website, authorities detailed incidents where victims were lured to the 4000 block of South Federal Street and then robbed at gunpoint by one or two male suspects, described as wearing dark clothing.
The pattern of these robberies seems to prey upon the unsuspecting bargain hunters, who were looking to score on what appeared to be irresistible deals. Victims were approached by the armed suspects upon arrival and were forced to suddenly hand over their money. One robbery occurred on December 24th at 8:30 P.M., with a subsequent incident following just five days later, on December 29th at 7:30 P.M.
Police have issued safety tips to the public in the wake of these unsettling encounters. Individuals are urged to always be vigilant of their environment and report any irregular activities. If faced with a dangerous situation, the police advise to remain calm and try to note any distinctive features of the assailant. Importantly, victims should never chase after the attacker but instead immediately contact the authorities, with the CPD suggesting to "dial 9-1-1 immediately and remain on scene when possible."
