In a swift crackdown in the early morning hours of December 27, Chicago Police arrested two individuals connected with an armed robbery in the city’s West Side. The accused, a 17-year-old male juvenile and 19-year-old Brian Davis, are each staring down the barrel of felony charges, including armed robbery and unlawful use of a weapon.
The duo was collared separately by responding officers, with the juvenile apprehended near West Polk and Davis taken into custody on South California Avenue. Law enforcement officials allege that the two managed to illegally consecrate themselves with firearms to blatantly rob a 28-year-old man. Their freedom, it seemed, was not long to last after the crime, as they reportedly were identified and arrested less than an hour after the incident.
According to Chicago Police Department reports, personal property was brazenly taken at gunpoint in the 2400 block of West Taylor Street. The young offenders now face the consequences of their actions, with the charges laid bare: the unnamed juvenile is charged with one felony count of robbery while armed with a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a person under 21, while Davis faces additional felony counts due to prior convictions.
Davis, hailing from the 1600 block of South Trumbull Avenue, must now contend with a past that has come to roost in the present. Charged not only with armed robbery but also for possession and use of a firearm by a felon, the net is closed tight around him. A warrant has also been issued, adding to the gravity of the situation that Davis will need to confront at his detention hearing, scheduled to be held at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse on South California Avenue.
The detention hearing for both individuals is set for today, and as the Chicago Police Department notes, no further details are currently available. The court will now determine the next steps for each accused as the case progresses.
