
A Chicago police officer was struck by a vehicle while responding to a domestic disturbance in the city's Southwest Side, near Midway Airport, Sunday night. The incident occurred just before 9:30 p.m. in the West Elsdon neighborhood on the 4500 block of West 59th Street. As the officer was getting out of the squad car, they were hit by a passing vehicle, according to details provided by the Chicago Sun-Times.
The officer, whose identity has not been released, was reportedly taken to Little Company of Mary Medical Center in good condition, albeit suffering from arm and leg swelling. The Chicago Police Department confirmed that other officers at the scene were able to remove the driver from the offending vehicle and make an arrest, with charges now pending against the individual involved in the mishap.
Details about the domestic dispute that prompted the police response were not immediately available, but the altercation reportedly involved two people within a vehicle before the officer was hit. The WLS report included that no further injuries were reported apart from those sustained by the officer.
As of now, the department has not released the name of the driver or the specific charges they face.
