Chicagoans are set for a mild end to the workweek before questionable weather rolls in for the weekend, according to the latest forecasts. The National Weather Service (NWS) is expecting sunny skies and above-normal temperatures reaching a high near 50 degrees this afternoon, with winds from the southwest between 8 and 11 mph. Clear skies will continue into the evening as temps dip to the mid-30s.
Tonight the weather remains clear, with a low around 34 promising a serene winter evening, but as Friday comes, clouds will be on the increase, with temperatures again hovering above the norm near 52 degrees, as reported by the National Weather Service. Friday is suggested to be on the cooler side, with a south-southwest breeze between 7 and 9 mph to accompany the cloudy skies.
The NWS has also released its hazardous weather outlook, noting that, despite no severe weather expected today or tonight, things might take a turn starting Sunday night. Conditions will be right for small craft advisories on Lake Michigan, and by Monday, Chicagoans could be bracing for gale-force winds and treacherous waves.
For Saturday, rain chances kick in at 40 percent by the afternoon and the possibility of showers remains before midnight. Temperatures take a slight dip with a high near 46, as detailed by the Hazardous Weather Outlook, the tranquility before the storm is just a temporary respite because the start of the next week is forecasted to be cold and blustery, with potential lake effect snow targeting portions of NW Indiana, as emphasized by the NWS Chicago on their X page.
