The frost is setting in, and the City of Austin isn't leaving its residents out in the cold. As the sting of winter looms, the city's various agencies have joined forces, doling out free winter weather supplies to help locals brace for the chilly months ahead. One could argue that generosity is just as infectious as the season's first snowfall.
The municipal coalition comprising Austin Energy, Austin Water, Austin Resource Recovery, and the Office of Homeland Security Management is setting up shop across the city this week. While supplies last, Austinites can flock to their nearest City Utilities Customer Service Centers to snag meter keys, hose bib covers, hand-crank flashlights, emergency preparedness kit materials, and winter preparedness tip sheets, according to KXAN.
Austin Water encourages residents to insulate pipes and understand how to properly drip faucets to prevent freezing. Austin Energy isn't left out of this precautionary tale, offering crucial electrical safety tips, such as the proper use of space heaters and keeping clear of glowing elements, and placing an emphasis on how a house warmed with care is a house that shelters life amidst the frostbite of winter's kiss, as reported by FOX 7 Austin.
