Early Tuesday morning, a quiet Dallas street turned into the scene of a violent altercation when a man shot two individuals, including a teenager, following a dispute with his mother. Authorities responded to a call on the 3900 block of Happy Canyon Drive around 7:30 a.m. to find a man and a 12-year-old boy wounded from gunfire. The shooter, prompted by an earlier confrontation, had returned to the scene with a gun after neighbors attempted to de-escalate a domestic spat involving him and his mother, according to WFAA.

Justin Pleitez, 16, recounted the suspect's return to the scene. "I heard two. I heard two loud ones like boom boom," Pleitez said, describing how the assailant came back and shot into his family's house. The young Pleitez's brother, 13 years old, was shot twice, sustaining injuries to his hand, arm, and leg. Steven Anthony, the long-time boyfriend of the suspect's mother, noted how the Pleitez family had rushed to their neighbor's aid only to be met with violence, "He got on top of him and subdued and [the suspect] didn't care for that," Anthony said, per NBC DFW.

The Dallas Police have a person in custody connected to the shooting, though the suspect's name has not been publicly released. Family members have identified the shooter as 25-year-old Marlon Perkins. The injuries of the victims are reportedly not life-threatening, yet the Dallas community is left shaken. "Everybody feels devastated. Everybody feels scared," said Justin Pleitez, reflecting the impact of such a brazen act of violence in a usually tranquil neighborhood, as per WFAA.

Following the attack, the Pleitez family confirmed that multiple bullet holes now mark the facade of their home—including in the windows and front door. "There’s one, two, three holes. And inside there’s three more," Justin Pleitez said, as detailed by NBC DFW.
