A holiday drive took a dangerous turn on Dillon Beach Road, leading to the intervention of aerial police unit H-30 to assist with a DUI arrest just before 5:30 pm. The California Highway Patrol's Golden Gate Division Air Operations reported the incident involving a collision that left both driver and passenger semi-conscious and combative, according to a Facebook post by the Division.
The Marin County Fire Department first responded to the scene, finding the occupants hard to reach and uncooperative, prompting a request for backup from CHP H-30. The aerial unit landed nearby, providing immediate assistance, with the flight officer/paramedic helping to secure the scene for the firefighters. The driver's impairment was so severe that they required hospitalization by medic 811 before being taken into custody by the CHP.
With roads bustling with holiday travelers, the CHP reminds the public to avoid driving under the influence and to designate a sober driver. The force is currently in a Maximum Enforcement Period, cracking down on traffic violations from the ground and the air to ensure safety during this festive time.
