A Dorchester man was slapped with gun charges after a traffic stop turned up a loaded pistol, Boston cops said Wednesday.

According to a statement by the Boston Police Department, Shamaun Booker, 27, was arrested late Tuesday in Roxbury when officers on patrol spotted his vehicle sans a front license plate and found it was sporting registrations that had been revoked for lacking insurance. In a twist of fate that left its registration revoked, the car was stopped at about 10:05 PM near Warren Street and Intervale Street.

Upon further sleuthing, the cops discovered that the license plate dangling on the vehicle didn't even match. Flicking on their lights and sirens, officers pulled over Booker, who was solo in the ride at the time.

The police encounter quickly escalated with officers handcuffing Booker before even a word could be exchanged, and finding a Sig Sauer P320 inside the car, with a bullet ready to fire and nine more waiting in the magazine. The recovered firearm seemingly had a voice of its own, declaring itself as illegal contraband, due to Booker's lack of a license to carry.

Booker was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition, the police department reported. He is expected to answer to the charges in Roxbury District Court.
