A rush-hour wreck left a Sherwin Williams truck perilously perched off the side of a Dallas bridge and the driver trapped inside on Monday. The accident took place on northbound Interstate 35 at Victory Avenue, jamming traffic and drawing a swift response from emergency teams.
The box truck ran off the road and was left hanging from the overpass. Dallas Fire-Rescue was called to the scene at approximately 3:15 p.m. as the driver remained inside the teetering vehicle, according to The Dallas Morning News.
The Dallas County Sheriff's Office has not yet provided details on what caused the crash, but the recovery operation involved an Urban Search and Rescue Team. Firefighters employed two aerial ladders and a rope system to extricate the driver from his precarious position, WFAA reported.
In a complex rescue, one team used a ladder to reach the driver's cab, while another stationed a ladder above to secure him with a harness. Once fastened securely, he was lifted over the guardrail to safety and immediately taken to the hospital for evaluation. Officials have yet to release information regarding his condition or the extent of his injuries.
An additional vehicle was embroiled in the incident, and one occupant was transported to a hospital, though the severity of their injuries is yet to be disclosed. The crash, which happened around 2:35 p.m., resulted in the closure of several traffic lanes and disrupted the flow of traffic well into the evening.
