According to tax documents and associates close to the matter, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO is planning to invest nearly $100 million into a school that will focus on STEM subjects and other areas of learning. The school, which has been named The Foundation, will cater to students with "proven academic and scientific potential," and will initially open its doors to around 50 students, with ambitions of growth over time.

The intent is to eventually establish a university dedicated to top-tier education. Indeed, the IRS application filed last year spells out plans for the institute. Alongside the new institute's launch, there are financial strategies in play. It is expected that the school's operations will be funded through a combination of tuition fees and donations. However, it remains a priority that scholarships be available to support applicants who would otherwise be unable to afford attendance.
