Chaos erupted in West Houston earlier today when a colossal excavator tangled with power lines, igniting a van and triggering a blackout for thousands. As per ABC13, the incident happened on Club Creek Drive near Beechnut Street, resulting in a transformer toppling onto a van. The errant excavator was performing its duty down the road before it became ensnared in the cables, setting off a destructive domino effect that left the van severely charred.
Witnesses reported a "loud boom," and footage captured by SkyEye showed the burnt-out husk of the vehicle with the punishing transformer still resting mercilessly atop it. Authorities are yet to release updates about potential injuries or the scope of power disturbances stemming from the aftermath. However, it’s clear that the mid-morning workday took an unexpected and dark turn for residents near the scene.
CenterPoint customers felt a jolt to their daily routines as over 3,000 of them found themselves stripped of power. KHOU reports that multiple power poles were forcefully brought to the ground by the excavator's mishap. However, power was promptly restored by 10 a.m., flipping the switch back on for most customers affected by the electric calamity.
Amidst the debris and disruption, the Houston Fire Department has yet to release details on the fire's cause or its aftermath, as communities begin to assess the damage. Fortunately, no injuries have been confirmed in the startling incident, according to KHOU.
