In efforts to curb illegal firearms in the community, Fairfield cops pulled a pair of guns off the streets following recent traffic stops. The Fairfield Police Department reported last week's busts involving loaded handguns found during vehicle stops conducted on separate occasions.

According to a Facebook post, Officer Spencer, while patrolling the 2300 block of Fairfield Avenue on December 14 at 9:30 pm, initiated a vehicle enforcement stop. The exchange led to the discovery of a loaded handgun under the front passenger's seat, occupied by 22-year-old Marcel McCarther, who then got arrested on gun charges.

Merely hours later, on December 15 at around 12:18 am, police made another stop at the intersection of Gateway Boulevard and Travis Boulevard. Officer Penate questioned Rory White, the driver, and passenger Latonya Jenkins. Located in Jenkins' backpack on the floor board where the front passenger was sitting, Officer Penate found a loaded handgun.

A truck with a records check revealed White's outstanding warrant. The 63-year-old driver was merely cited on his warrant, while Jenkins, a 44-year-old felon, was arrested for various weapons charges. Proactive policing strategies like these play an instrumental role in the efforts to remove illegal firearms from the community and reduce associated crimes.
