In a routine crackdown on traffic violations, Fairfield's streets became the stage for a startling discovery as Officer Tuss of the Fairfield Police Department halted a driver earlier this month. The traffic stop, made at the intersection of Tabor and Pennsylvania Avenue, unfolded into more than just a simple citation when Officer Tuss laid eyes on an open container of alcohol within easy reach of the driver, according to information provided by the Fairfield Police Department's Facebook Page.
With the visible open container serving as probable cause, Officer Tuss delved deeper, subjecting the driver to a DUI evaluation. A search of the vehicle unveiled a semi-automatic handgun expertly tucked away beneath the driver's seat, expanding the traffic stop into potential felony territory. The Fairfield Police divulged that the handgun recovery and the driver's associated offenses are now under the purview of the District Attorney's Office.
The Fairfield Police Department's social media post did not reveal the name of the driver entangled in this roadside incident, nor the specific vehicle code violation that triggered the stop, maintaining a focus on the facts of the case while withholding details likely to stoke public speculation.
