A Yuletide tragedy occurred on the roads of Pope County when two vehicles, a Honda and a Toyota, collided head-on the evening of Christmas Eve, tragically claiming the life of one woman and injuring another. KSTP reports that the crash happened on Highway 55 at Mile Post 77 in Chippewa Falls Township shortly before 8 p.m.
The official account from the Minnesota State Patrol identifies the two cars as an eastbound Honda Pilot and a westbound Toyota Yaris. The 18-year-old woman from Wilmar, driving the Honda, was reported to quickly have been taken to receive medical attention and is expected to recover. Authorities have said alcohol was not a contributing factor in her case.
The more devastating outcome was for the 57-year-old driver of the Yaris from Glenwood, who did not survive the crash. Details of this fatal incident are to be disclosed by officials, with the name of the deceased planned to be released Tuesday evening, as per the information shared by KSTP.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety confirms the head-on nature of the accident on the divided highway. Road conditions at the time were described as wet, which might have easily played a sinister part in the crash dynamics.
