A man was shot and killed in Miramar last Friday in what police described as a domestic incident. The fatal shooting unfolded in a residential part of town, sparking an investigation by local authorities. According to NBC Miami, it started with an altercation escalated to gunfire between the current and former boyfriends of a woman.
After the victim was shot, the woman who was reportedly his ex-girlfriend, transported him to a second location before the authorities were contacted. While details are scarce, police confirmed the shooter had remained at the scene, cooperating with detectives, a domestic squabble having apparently spiraled fatally out of control. "The incident involved a current and former boyfriend," Miramar police added.
The 7News coverage included interviews with distraught neighbors, one of whom, Steven Marcellus, expressed his anxiety, "I know a couple of people down that way and I just hope it’s not them," he told the news station. "I’m nervous and kind of sad right now."
The identity of the deceased has yet to be officially released, but a man claiming to be the victim's uncle was seen at the site, having been informed of his nephew's shooting, approached news crews, unable to fathom the night's violence. "Right now I don’t know," he said in a statement obtained by 7News. "They just called me and said my nephew got shot. Then I just came here to see what’s going on. But, I don’t really know anything."
As Miramar Police continue their investigation into the deadly encounter, they've assured the local community that there exists no further threat. Tania Rues, the department's public information officer, assured residents, saying, "We still have a lot of work to do, but the community is safe," as reported by WSVN. The decision on whether to file charges against the shooter will come following the conclusion of their comprehensive investigation.
