A South Miami-Dade community was left reeling after a dispute between family members turned deadly. According to Miami-Dade Police, a 23-year-old man shot and killed his father Sunday night, following a heated altercation in their home near 161st Court and 297th Terrace, as reported by 7News.
Police officers and CSI units descended upon the quiet neighborhood after the violence erupted just after 9:30 p.m. Investigators told WSVN, the son intervened in a dispute between the victim and the mother, and during the ensuing chaos, firearms spoke instead of calmer heads. "Once the son intervened, shots were fired," Miami-Dade Police Detective Andre Martin said in a statement obtained by the network. A 911 call was made by the son himself, who then awaited the arrival of the first responders.
The victim, a 46-year-old man, was taken to Jackson South Medical Center but later succumbed to his injuries. We ran inside, saw a little bit of smoke going up in the air, and in about 10 minutes, the cops were here."
