A Florida man, Sony Josaphat, has been arrested and charged with fatally shooting his ex-wife and her new husband just one week after the couple tied the knot. In a grisly discovery on December 9, the two victims were found dead with gunshot wounds in West Palm Beach, as reported by WESH.
Deputies responded to the scene on the 12000 block of Summit Run Circle following a report of the shooting, according to WPBF. Josaphat, 46, then turned himself in to the authorities, admitting to the double homicide. In a statement obtained by WPTV, the arrest report cited that Josaphat became overwhelmed with rage when he encountered the newlyweds, which led to the fatal encounter.
The suspect was immediately tagged as a person of interest and is now facing two counts of first-degree murder. Relatives of the victims claimed that Josaphat, who has been described as controlling, had a habit of showing up unannounced from time to time, as WESH reported.
While details of the case are still unfolding, the sister of the female victim told WPTV that her sister "has never been as happy as she was now," celebrating her marriage and birthday on December 2. Tragically, investigators revealed that three of the woman's children were inside the house at the time of the shooting, where their mother and her husband were gunned down. Josaphat is scheduled for his next court appearance on January 8, as per People, although it is unclear if he has secured legal representation or entered a plea.
The use of Marsy's Law has prevented the release of the victims' names to the public with respect to the family's wishes. What's known, however, is that the home where the gruesome shooting took place was once shared by Josaphat and his ex-wife before their divorce was finalized in October. This case brings yet another somber story of domestic violence culminating in a deadly end, a narrative all too common yet never less appalling.
