Thieves have hit the Twin Cities food truck scene once again with Minneapolis's own Animales Barbeque Co. falling victim to a robbery, as perpetrators made off with the company's transport truck, packed with a "TON of equipment," announced in a social media post on Friday. This case echoes a similar plight faced by St. Paul's Egg Roll Queen which suffered through its third burglary in just two months when a generator was stolen from one of its food trucks, BringMeTheNews reported.

While such predatory strikes prove not exclusive to Minnesota, the Los Angeles Times disclosed a crime surge haunting food truck operators in Los Angeles earlier this year. Animales Barbeque has faced its unique challenges having been previously informed by Minneapolis city officials that it could no longer use offset smokers, smokers pivotal to their operations set outside the truck.

Yet following negotiations, they were permitted to continue their use and the business has thrived since. The smoke now in question is that of sadness as the very same truck that was integral to their operation is now missing, the food truck had carved out a name for itself by being recognized for its exceptional BBQ even by Southern standards with a nod from Texas Monthly in July 2022, evidencing the establishment's significant rise from its 2018 inception at Able Seedhouse + Brewery to its current spot at Bauhaus Brew Labs.
