Fort Lauderdale Police nabbed a man allegedly connected to the daylight heist of a Canadian couple during their scenic stroll off Las Olas Boulevard. Kelvin Carraquelrojas, 26, has been charged with robbery with a firearm and aggravated battery causing bodily harm. This announcement comes after a bold robbery occurred on December 9 at approximately 4:50 p.m. near the bustling intersection of Las Olas Boulevard and San Marco Drive.
According to information released by NBC Miami, the vacationing couple was randomly confronted and held at gunpoint. They were looking forward to unwinding at their hotel before this trip turned into an unexpected nightmare. A daring witness managed to capture the altercation on video, which showed the assailants wrestling the man to the ground, hitting him with the gun, and forcibly taking his $45,000 Rolex.
The investigation is still underway, as the Fort Lauderdale Police Department works to painstakingly identify any additional culprits involved in the crime. "We're still trying to identify all of the suspects," a department spokesperson stated.
Local authorities are urging the public to come forward with any leads. "Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS," the Police have informed.
