An off-duty Fort Worth cop was cuffed on suspicion of driving while boozed-up this past weekend, authorities reported. Officer Eduardo Gasca found himself on the wrong side of the law Saturday in Venus, a small town about 30 miles from Fort Worth.
Following the incident, the Fort Worth Police Department didn't waste any time stripping Gasca of his police powers and confining him to restricted duty. The department affirmed in an announcement, "The Fort Worth Police Department holds its officers to a high standard on and off duty", as per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The 10-year department veteran is now the focus of not one, but two inquiries — a criminal investigation by Venus Police and an administrative one by Fort Worth's Internal Affairs Unit. Specifics of his case are thin on the ground, as a Venus Police Department spokesperson said that details on active cases are not for public consumption.
Gasca, who was with the Patrol Bureau at the time of his arrest, is shrouded in an imbroglio that has the Fort Worth Police Department on its toes. "Therefore, a thorough investigation to collect and review the facts and circumstances of these allegations will be conducted," the department promised in an official statement. This incident is not just a matter of legal proceedings, but it also puts a spotlight on the ethical standards to which peace officers are expected to adhere, regardless of whether they are clocked in or out, according to FOX 4 News.
