In a brazen attempted burglary, four individuals were caught following a high-speed chase culminating in a crash and a frantic run through a Rancho Santa Fe neighborhood. According to a release by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, deputies from 4S Ranch, along with backup from Poway, Encinitas, and aerial support from ASTREA, worked in coordination to apprehend the suspects on December 23, just before the clock struck 8 p.m.
Reports indicate the would-be burglars had been trying to force their way into a home within the affluent 6800 block of Poco Lago when they were spotted. Riding on a wave of audacity, the suspects fled into a canyon, escaping to a getaway car that barreled away from patrolling deputies at dangerous speeds. A high-risk vehicle stop was attempted, but the vehicle roared on, leading deputies on a short, but intense chase that ended with the suspects' vehicle crashing into a community gate.
