The circle of family members implicated in the harrowing abuse of a Margate teenager expanded as authorities apprehended a relative previously employed at a child abuse prevention nonprofit. Treaunshae Gibbons, 29, has been hit with charges of child neglect with great bodily harm and failure to report child abuse inside her home, as reported by Local 10.
Gibbons, described in court as a “blood relative” of the abused girl, stands out as the fifth family member to be arrested and the fourth directly tied to the abuse allegations. The former family support counselor at Kids in Distress—a Wilton Manors-based nonprofit—lived in the alleged torture house from November 1, 2015, to November 19, 2019.
The chilling arrest warrant, which saw sections heavily redacted, suggests that Gibbons "witnessed and/or otherwise knew of the abuse and neglect the child victim was experiencing and failed to make a reasonable effort" to shield the victim from the torment, as reported by Local 10.
Further astonishment arises with Gibbons’ direct ties to the field of child welfare through her employment at Kids in Distress, an organization dedicated explicitly to the prevention of child abuse and the treatment of children who have endured such abuses. Her work at the nonprofit, now seen with dark irony, has been called into question as she faces allegations of turning a blind eye to the very horrors she was professionally obligated to confront, according to information from Ground News.
