A grim holiday visit turned into a scene from a crime show when a visiting family made a chilling discovery in a San Diego home. Police were summoned to a residence on the 4900 block of Zion Avenue in the tranquil Allied Gardens neighborhood, where 'out-of-town' family members found a body stashed in a freezer last Friday.
San Diego police got the call at around 11:45 am on December 22, with the homicide unit arriving at the peculiar scene shortly after, UNILAD reported. The body, believed to be that of a female, was in such a state that no clear details regarding the identity or potential traumatic injuries could be determined at first glance.
The startling incident has left the local community on edge as the investigation is ongoing. As identified in a city document, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office has taken custody of the body, looking to unearth the cause of death and the circumstances that led to the body's encasement in frost.
Neighbors expressed their concern, with one resident, Austin Cowdrey telling NBC News, "Wow. That's definitely concerning," and acknowledging the rarity of such grim occurrences in their area. He also mentioned that while he has security cameras installed, this incident would prompt him to take "a little bit more caution" for the safety of himself and those he knows.
Police continue searching for answers and have asked anyone with information to come forward, providing the San Diego Police Department’s homicide unit and Crime Stoppers numbers for possible leads: 619-531-2293 and 888-580-8477, respectively.
